Richardson Electronics Introduces X-Band Silicon Radar Quad-Core IC from Anokiwave

LaFox, IL, Monday, October 19, 2015 – Richardson Electronics, Ltd. (NASDAQ: RELL) announced today the availability of a new X-band silicon radar quad-core integrated circuit from Anokiwave, Inc.

The highly-integrated AWS-0103 is intended for radar and 5G phased array applications. The device supports four radiating elements, single beam transmit, and dual beam receive and includes all requisite beam steering controls for 6-bit phase and gain control. It provides 21 dB gain and +15 dBm output power during transmit mode and 7 dB gain and +7 dBm IIP3 during receive mode. Additional features include gain compensation over temperature, temperature reporting, and fast beam switching using eight on-chip beam weight storage registers.

The new IC offers ESD protection on all pins, operates from +1.8 V, and is packaged in a 56-lead, 7 mm x 7 mm PQFN for easy installation in planar phased array antennas.

“This product is an excellent example of the highly-integrated silicon core chips that Anokiwave is developing to lead the phased array revolution,” said Chris Marshall, Chief Technology Officer of Richardson Electronics’ Power & Microwave Technologies group. “Our global, highly-technical sales team is eager to promote the AWS-0103 to existing and prospective customers.”

The part provides high input linearity in Rx mode and can be used with a GaAs or GaN front end. Additional key features of the AWS-0103 include:

  • +7 dBm Rx IIP3
  • 6-bit phase control (LSB=5.625°)
  • 6-bit gain control (LSB=0.5 dB)
  • 8 W DC Tx mode
  • 7 W DC Rx mode
  • 14 dB NF Rx
